After coming up with the idea of starting this blog, I realized that one of my favorite things about being a photographer is getting to learn about you—your story, your moments. But what do you know about my story? Funny you ask, because I’m about to tell you
Who Am I?
Sooooo where do I start. Well first my name is Shelby Page and I am a lifestyle portrait photographer based in New Jersey. I specialize in sessions ranging from individuals to couples, families and small events.
Personal Story
As a child, I grew up loving animals, being outside, showing off my creative skills, my friends and I putting shows on for our parents, going to Philly with my aunt and uncle, playing a ton of sports, and traveling to visit family in California since I was 2, etc.... you know normal kid stuff. You might say, Shelby, you never said you took tons of photos. I hadn't yet... My friends, once I got my hands on a point and shoot camera, game was over.
2013 comes around, I am 13, it is Christmas time and all I remember asking for was a DSLR camera. Im sitting in the living room with my brother and dad, I have a gift from my grandma in my hands. Im hoping and praying that its a "big girl" camera. Opening it up, it's a little red point and shoot camera. Yes game is over. Just kidding haha. I had immediately started taking photos of anything and everything, from my cat, to my grandparents, to the tree in my front yard, it was being captured. Little did I know 11 years later that this would become my passion.
My "Why" What drives my passion?
To this day, I still find myself taking photos of just about everything — moments big and small, ordinary and magical. It’s funny, because if you had asked younger me what I wanted to be, I would've said a marine biologist or a zookeeper without missing a beat. Honestly, I could’ve happily slept in a zoo if someone had let me. But life, as it often does, had a different path in mind — one I never expected, but one that felt deeply right.
That being said, my journey into photography began with my mom. She had this quiet way of capturing everyday moments that later became the most cherished memories. After she passed, I found myself clinging to the photos she had taken — they felt like pieces of her that would never fade. Picking up a camera became a way to honor her and carry forward the gift she gave me: the ability to preserve love, connection, and legacy through images. In many ways, my mom is the reason I’m on this path — she’s the one who drives my passion. And I truly believe life has a funny, beautiful way of bringing things full circle.
